(Polling Rate)?

Mouse Polling Rate: Is 4000Hz Worth It?
In recent years, gaming mice have entered an "arms race," jumping from standard 1000Hz to 4000Hz or even 8000Hz. Do these specs make you a better player? Or is it just marketing?
What is Polling Rate?
Measured in Hz, it indicates how often the mouse reports its position to the PC.
1000Hz: Reports every 1ms.
4000Hz: Reports every 0.25ms.
Pros & Cons of High Polling Rate
Pros: Lower theoretical latency, smoother cursor micro-movements, better precision.
Cons: Extremely high CPU usage. If your CPU isn't powerful enough (e.g., older i5), using 4000Hz can actually cause FPS drops. Also, wireless battery life drains much faster.
How to test stability?
A good mouse isn't just fast; it must be "stable." Use GearLab's tool to move your mouse quickly and watch the waveform:
- Stable Waveform: Consistent gaps between dots indicate good transmission quality.
- Jittery Waveform: If a 1000Hz mouse jumps wildly between 500Hz-1200Hz, the sensor or transmission is unstable, leading to inconsistent aim.
